Angels Advance to ALCS
Rally monkeys were sure to have been in full force back in Anaheim when the Los Angeles Angels headed into the 9th inning trailing the Red Sox 6-4 at Fenway yesterday. The previous 4 times the Angels had played the Red Sox in the postseason; they had lost all 4 series including 3 out of the last 5 seasons. Boston had won 9 out of the last 10 playoff games against the Angels.
Rather than repeat history, the Angels and Vladimir Guerrero finally took care of Boston and brought the brooms out to sweep away the Red Sox on Sunday, scoring three runs off Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning to beat Boston 7-6 and advance to the AL Championship Series. It was the first postseason sweep in Angels franchise history.
Amazing comeback for the Angels considering Jonathan Papelbon had an era of 0.00 over 26 innings in his playoff career heading into Sunday’s game.
Next up for the Angels will be the ALCS where they’ll take on the white-hot New York Yankees. Choose your team and get your gear ready at Hat Club.
