Favre’s Possible Farewell Tour Comes to an End in New Orleans
History seems to repeat itself more often than you think.
Two years ago in the NFC Championship Game, Brett Favre’s last pass as a Green Bay Packer resulted in an interception in which the New York Giants went on to win and clinch a berth in the Super Bowl.
On Sunday night, Favre’s potentially last pass as a Minnesota Viking also resulted in an interception in which the New Orleans Saints went on to win and clinch a berth in the Super Bowl.
After winning the coin toss in overtime, a 40 yard field goal by Garrett Hartley sent the Saints to a 31-28 victory over the Vikings and to their first Super Bowl in franchise history.
The game went back and forth all day with both teams leading by no more than a touchdown. The Vikings lost 3 of the 6 fumbles they committed while Favre was feeling the pressure from the Saints defense being hit numerous times in the pocket. However, the game stayed close til the end due to Minnesota’s defense which forced the Saints to go 3 and out frequently rather than capitalize on the Viking turnovers.
Favre set a few milestones during the course of the game as he threw two interceptions to take over the record for the most INTs by a QB in postseason history with 30. He also set the record for career postseason passing yards and career postseason pass completions.
The New Orleans Saints will take on the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV on February 7. This is the first time since 1993 that the two No. 1 seeds will face off in the Super Bowl.
