Jets Continue to Show Experience Means Nada
Teams with rookie starting quarterbacks aren’t supposed to have much success; let alone that same team being led by a rookie head coach.
But nevertheless, Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets continue to buck the trends and history after they upset the once-hot San Diego Chargers 17-14 Sunday to advance past the AFC Divisional Round.
New York rallied with 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter punctuated by Shonn Greene’s 53 yard touchdown run that gave New York some breathing room to brace for San Diego’s comeback drive.
The Chargers who came in today as winners of 11 straight; couldn’t capitalize on numerous opportunities to put the game away and instead let the Jets hang around too long before the 4th quarter rally. Nate Kaeding missed 3 field goals after missing only 3 all year long while the Jets stingy defense didn’t give up many big plays from the potent Chargers offense.
Sunday’s loss was just another postseason letdown for San Diego which has failed to make it to the big dance the past several seasons despite fielding impressive teams that dominated during the regular season.
The Jets have won two playoff games in a season for the first time since 1982 and only the second time in team history.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan’s postseason itinerary which included a date in Miami for the Super Bowl so far seems to be on track. The Jets travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts next Sunday in the AFC Championship Game. The game will be the Jets’ first appearance since 1999.
