NBA Western Conference Playoff Race Tightens Up
All 8 of the playoff spots in the Western Conference have been clinched already but aside from the defending champion Lakers locking up the 1 seed; nothing else in the West has been settled yet in terms of seeding.
With only 2-3 games left for most of the teams, a lot can change in the standings by next Wednesday; the last day of the regular season.
- The Mavericks clinched the Southwest Division Title last night after they beat the Portland Trail Blazers 83-77 as Dirk Nowitzki carried the team with his 40 points and 10 rebounds. Earlier in the night, the Spurs had lost to the Grizzlies which gave Dallas an opportunity to clinch the division with a win.
- The Nuggets currently sit in a tie with the Mavs for the 2 seed. However, if they end up staying tied by next Wednesday, the Mavs would have the tiebreaker because of their 2-1 record vs. Denver.
- The Suns dropped a crucial game against the Thunder that temporarily dropped them to the 5 seed and a half game back of the Utah Jazz who are currently the 4 seed.
- Meanwhile, the Thunder, Blazers and Spurs are currently battling each other for the 6-8 seeds; with each team seemingly wanting to avoid the 1st round matchup with the Lakers.
- In the Eastern Conference, little drama in the fold as the Cavs have clinched the 1 seed and plan to rest LeBron for the rest of the regular season; while the Magic have guaranteed themselves of the 2 seed.
- The 8 seed is the only playoff spot in the East that hasn’t been settled yet as the Raptors currently have a tie breaker over the Bulls; who have 3 games left to try to unseat Chris Bosh and company.
