Just Happy to be Here? Sharks Find Themselves in 2-0 Hole in WCF’s
For all the celebrating and rejoicing by the San Jose Sharks after their dominating series victory over the Detroit Red Wings; it seems premature and irrelevant now that the chronic postseason underachievers are down 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals to the Chicago Blackhawks after a 4-2 loss Tuesday night.
Dustin Byfuglien and Jonathan Toews scored on deflections 90 seconds apart in the second period as the Blackhawks rolled to their record-tying seventh straight road win in the playoffs.
Andrew Ladd and Troy Brouwer also scored and Antti Niemi made 25 saves for Chicago, who are only 2 wins away from reaching the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1992.
Patrick Marleau scored both goals for the Sharks, who dropped to 0-5 at home in two trips to the conference final.
Unless they can pull off at least one win in Chicago to avoid the sweep, the Sharks won’t have another home game this postseason. San Jose has lost all seven playoff series after falling behind 2-0.
The series moves to Chicago for Game 3 on Friday night and Game 4 on Sunday. The Sharks may have a glimmer of hope going for them though as the Blackhawks are only 3-3 at home this postseason.
