Sharks Head to Motown with 2-0 Series Lead
Joe Thornton finally got on the board for the postseason; ending his playoff drought by knocking in a rebound goal with 7:23 left that gave the San Jose Sharks a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night to take a 2-0 lead in their second-round series.
Joe Pavelski scored a pair of power-play goals to extend his goal-scoring streak to five games and set up Ryane Clowe’s between-the-legs score to continue a breakthrough postseason for the player no longer known as "Little Joe”.
Joe Pavelski continued his hot streak in this postseason, scoring two more goals to become the first player since Mario Lemieux in 1992 to record three straight multi-goal games in a single postseason. He has also tied Patrick Marleau’s team record of 9 playoff goals set back in 2006.
The Sharks have now won five straight games since Dan Boyle’s own goal gaffe cost the Sharks Game 3 of their first round series with the Colorado Avalanche. A positive sign that they could finally be shedding the label of postseason chokers.
However, they still need to knock off the Wings, who have owned the Western Conference by going to six of the past 14 Stanley Cup finals. No other team in the conference has been to the finals more than twice in that span.
Game 3 will be Tuesday night in Detroit.

- Mike Cammalleri scored two more goals, Jaroslav Halak made 38 saves as the Montreal Canadiens surprised the Pittsburgh Penguins winning 3-1 on Sunday to even up their series.
